My students need your help in taking learning out of the classroom and experiencing history firsthand in the locations they occurred.

My Students

Ever since I became a history teacher twelve years ago I have found that getting kids engaged with material outside of the classroom has encouraged their thirst for knowledge about the world.

I teach World History and US History at a public high school in Boston, Massachusetts, where my students analyze historical processes and trends in class that I hope with your help can extend out into the world.

Through inquiry-based learning, they explore social, religious, and economic patterns in history, acquiring a deeper understanding of the past to understand our current world.

My students are drawn to learning about different cultures in our world and discovering things about each that make those cultures unique. Anytime I get to have students interact with these cultures it gives them a better perspective of people in the world today.

We are seeking additional funds to contribute to the overall costs of our trip.

My Project

A quote I was exposed to in college described traveling as such: “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page.” The majority of my students, some 71%, come from low-income households and are denied numerous opportunities to enrich their understanding of the world. Many have never left the city, let alone have gone to another continent.

Travel does not simply enrich students' understanding of history or their understanding of other cultures, but travel allows students to understand themselves, their worth, and their place in the world.

It provides students opportunities to try new things, discover things about the world, and develop a level of compassion and understanding of humanity that is difficult to replicate in a classroom.

This is an amazing opportunity for students to gain levels of independence for themselves as they travel without family and set off into the world. The experiences they will have will impact their perceptions and help guide their thinking as they encounter new topics when they return to the classroom. Donating to this cause allows me to keep the prices affordable for families so these kids can have a chance to experience traveling in the world.

We hope you can help us reach our goal and help these students gain new perspectives on the world and themselves. They will experience and visit large cities like Lima, Cuzco, and Iguitos. They will get to see the natural history of Lima, learn about the Inca, and witness the natural beauty of Machu Picchu. In Iquitos, the students will have a change to be on the Amazon river and interact with indigenous people and the natural world of the Amazon. This trip will show them that they can go out and learn more about the world and hopefully themselves.

Every dollar donated goes directly to helping a child have the experience of a lifetime, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. Below are just a few of the pictures from our last trip to Japan
that many people just like you helped make happen.

I hope you consider donating and providing a lifetime experience for yet another group of wonderful young people.
