JJ Byrne is a 16 year old young man who suffered a stroke this past Tuesday, December 14, 2020. JJ is currently a Junior St. Dominic High School, Oyster Bay, NY @stdomshs . JJ is an athlete on the Football and Baseball teams @stdomsathletics. JJ resides in Plainedge, NY with his mother Melissa and his sister Jordyn. On Tuesday JJ went to the gym with his friend Derek. Derek noticed that JJ face started to droop and he was loosing strength. JJ's speech also seemed to be off. With quick thinking Derek Face timed JJ's mother Melissa, who is a nurse. She knew immediately JJ was having a Stroke. She told Derek to call 911 and tell them he was having a stroke.. JJ was rushed to Winthrop Hospital. Upon his arrival JJ had a CAT scan which then was rushed into surgery for them to remove a blood clot on his brain. The blod clot was successfully removed, but the ramifications of the stroke still exist. JJ has made wonderful progress but is still struggling on his right side. JJ will be receiving OT/PT and possibly speech therapy. JJ is talking at this time but has some difficultly with his memory. He also has begun to walk, but has a long haul ahead of him. JJ will still undergo more tests and will require a 2nd surgery. JJ was diagnosed with a hole in his heart. Which we know now was the cause of his stroke. In two weeks JJ will be heading into NYC for them to put a plug in his heart. Melissa, JJ's mother has taken an immediate leave of absence from work in order to care for her son while recoving from the stroke and heart surgery. If you could please help our fellow #BayhawkFamily student. No donation is too small to relieve some of the stress for JJ's family. #bayhawksfootball #stdomshs #bayhawkbaseball #Bayhawksforlife#BayhawkNation #Bayhawkheartstrong
