As many of you know, and many more may not, my dad Gary has once again been fighting the good fight; Liver cancer for 2 nearly years now, with the prognosis being only a transplant to survive. While times are good and times are bad, news is good and news is bad, his family and friends have stood by him to support him, guide him and love him.
While he patiently waits for a liver transplant, the clock doesn't stop, and new circumstances can, and do, arise. It seems like weekly Gary and Merry make a trip ( or three) to San Diego to meet with labs, radiologists , cardiologist, hematologists, transplant boards, transplant coordinators, and the list goes on... As you can imagine the expenses of this disease are overwhelming and never ending. The newest saga is the increased cost of care. Beginning January 1st Gary's medical coverage is changing. One of the changes is the cost of prescriptions. The plan will now have a HUGE deductible. While most people may not give this a third glance, Gary has to. Some of the medication he must take to survive can run upwards of $100 a PILL, and these are not optiona or offered as a generic. They are medications he must take daily to get through this wait.
While I know the biggest costs to this disease are yet to come, I think it's time to ask for a little help. A little weight to be lifted while Gary, and all of us really, wait. Please take a moment and see what you may have to give to Gary and Merry. A blessing, a dollar, anything will help.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this message. I will continue to update Gary's story for those of you that want to know how things are going.
Regards,
-Sarah
