My sister’s story has inspired us as a family to try and raise awareness of charities that support others suffering from Mental Health conditions - especially those conditions that aren’t yet spoken about much.
My sister, Kiera, has been suffering with anxiety and depression for over 11 years. This has progressed to emetophobia (a fear of being sick) and agoraphobia (a fear of going out).
Lockdown has worsened Kiera’s condition, and it has also meant that she’s been unable to get the surgery she needs for Kidney stones. Both the worsening Mental Health conditions and the chronic pain have left Kiera unable to leave her house at all; spending the majority of the time in her bedroom.
As a family, we are trying to help support Kiera through this tough time, but we can’t do it without professional help. The professional help Kiera has received so far has not been fully effective. So, we’re sharing our story in the hope of raising awareness of emetophobia and agoraphobia and helping others suffering.
We hadn’t really thought about approaching charities as a means of help, however, just recently, we have seen just how amazing they are. So, we’d love to take the opportunity to raise money for a range of charities who are supporting others with their Mental Health.
We are very grateful for anything you are able to contribute towards helping these charities help others.
Thank you for reading our story.
