Our son, Jimmy (James Ryott Harris) has an extremely rare congenital condition where a cyst developed in his airway. His pediatrician referred him to my ENT, where it was suspected, then confirmed by Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. 4 hours from home. He couldn’t breathe when we got here, so they admitted him and rushed him to the Pediatric ICU, where he was medicated and put on a breathing machine. He had surgery the next morning, but now his airway is completely closed around his breathing tube from swelling and he’s being fed by another tube. Jimmy is still in the Pediatric ICU in critical condition since he can’t breathe on his own. He will need to be fed through a nutrition tube until after his breathing tube comes out. And depending on how well he takes to bottle feeding after that, he may end up needing more time to heal before the nutrition tube can come out. He hasn’t gained hardly any weight in the 6 weeks since he’s been born so when he’s not critical anymore, they want to move him to the pediatric floor to continue monitoring nourishing him more.
I’ve been providing updates on Facebook and will also do so on here in the future.
I reluctantly started this GoFundMe because I thought we’d be ok financially. But with the unexpected duration, cost of gas, eating out every day, and having to support 4 of us on this emergency trip, the little bit of money we were able to scrape together quickly dwindled. Through the generosity of others we’ve made it this far. However, without any more help, everything is up in the air. We currently have a place to sleep at the Ronald McDonald House, but they have limited availability for the duration of our stay because nobody knew how long we’d be here. And since they operate on a first come fist serve basis, we may need to get a hotel at some point, which we definitely can’t afford right now.
Anything you can help with would bless us tremendously. Also, please pray for Jimmy and our family as we go through this extremely trying time. Thank you all in advance for all of your help and support!
