Local Firefighter Needs Your Help!

Jimmy Baker, a man that has given endlessly and thanklessly to his community, now needs his community to help him.
Jimmy "Bake Bake" Baker has been a member of the volunteer fire service in Howard County for almost 25 years. Jimmy has served on committies and boards and taught countless fire fighters the skills that are saving their lives today. This is a man who could always be found at the fire house teaching, training, and giving heart and soul into his community.

Those that have served with Jimmy have long since lost count of the number of calls they have riden with him and the life saving things that he has taught them. Jimmy has been able to assist and play a part in the lives of so many people who have called for the fire department in Western Howard County and many of those people recognize him when he was out. Often approached, he always accepts their thanks and reminds them that he was simply doing his job. A job he loves and has given so much of himself too.

Jimmy is father to two children. A daughter, Kelli, and a minor son. He also has 2 grandchildren. For those that have been blessed enough to know this man, they know exactly how much his family means to him.

On Friday November 28, 2014, the start to a busy holiday season, Jimmy went into cardiac arrest while at the firehouse. He had been there throughout the day and riding the apparatus on calls for service in his community as he had done for over 2 decades. Thanks to the swift and skilled reaction of those at the firehouse Jimmy was quickly being treated and taken to the hospital. The crews were able to regain a pulse and hospital staff started treating Jimmy immediately upon arrival. While family and friends converged on the hospital Jimmy was just beginning the long fight for his life.

At this time Jimmy remains in the hospital and he is still fighting for his life. His family and friends have not left him since the onset of this tragic event that caught everyone so completely off guard. No one thought that the healthy "ox of a firefighter" could ever see something like this.

Our goal here is to raise money to ensure security for his family. There are bills that need to be paid and the futures of his children that he is not capable of providing for at this time. His fire department family is stepping up to fill this roll until he is able to do such on his own. We come to you asking to give just a little bit to a man who has given heart and soul to total strangers for so long. The money raised will go to covering household expenses for his children as well as to their educational future. Every little bit helps and there are no words that will ever express the gratitude of his family and friends to have that worry taken care of while they remain at his side.
