My brother, Jimmy Touchet, has always been a very personable individual with high character. He is a sports writer for various newspapers throughout the state of Louisiana, mainly the Newsstar in Monroe, a sports radio personality, a Methodist Church member, a Pi Kappa Alpha brother, an alumni of ULM, a dad, and a huge supporter of the children's miracle network in central Louisiana. He has an outgoing personality and would go out of his way to help a stranger. About a month ago Jimmy got what he thought was a bad cold. He took some Tylenol and ate some chicken noodle soup and toughed it out. It got worse and he continued to take medicine thinking he would get better. He even felt better on October 12th and covered a game for the newspaper. The next Monday the doctor decided to admit him to the hospital because it wasn't getting any better. What came next suprised us all, the hospital said his liver was failing! He was transferred from Monroe to Cabrini in Alexandria for further treatment. When he arrived at Cabrini he was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit and the doctor advised us that his heart was adnornal as well. He spent a week at Cabrini, during which his liver got better but his heart did not. The doctors advised us that he was in need of a heart transplant. They put him on a waiting list to be admitted to Oschner's hospital in New Orleans. The plan is to put a left ventricular pump in and wait until a heart becomes available. He is now at Oschner's and we are awaiting the next step. This has been a very stressful situation for all of our family, and very much so for his wife and kids. Jill, his wife, has had to take alot of time off work travelling back and forth from Monroe to Alexandria taking care of the kids and Jimmy. Now she will be travelling between New Orleans and Monroe. It will be a long road to recovery for my brother's family but we have faith that it will get better. Jimmy will be out of work for an extended period of time when he gets out of the hospital. Jill has and will miss alot more work. We are raising money to help make this easier for my brother's family as the only thing they should need to worry about is Jimmy's health. I appreciate everyone's generosity and prayer's as we fight this together. God Bless.
