Hi, my name is Meg Oxley, and I’m reaching out for help during a heartbreaking and urgent time for our family.

On Saturday, 22 November 2025, my dad’s best friend and loyal staffy, Jimmy, was bitten by an Eastern Brown Snake just outside of Childers, QLD. It was a tragic accident — the dogs were simply protecting their home, as they always do.

Within minutes, Jimmy collapsed. Dad rushed him into Childers, and thankfully he arrived at the vet within 30 minutes, but by then he was already in critical condition.

Since then, Jimmy has received five vials of anti-venom and is still fighting for his life. He’s not out of danger yet, and the emergency treatment and ongoing care are extremely costly.

My dad is on a disability pension, and with this time of year bringing multiple family birthdays and Christmas, money is already stretched thin. This unexpected emergency has put him in an impossible position — wanting to save his best mate, but struggling to afford the lifesaving treatment Jimmy desperately needs.

This situation is especially painful because just two years ago, dad lost his previous staffy, Wombat, who was also his service dog, to another snake bite. Losing Wombat devastated him, and now facing the same nightmare with Jimmy has been utterly heartbreaking. Jimmy is more than a pet — he is dad’s companion, his comfort, and his emotional support.

Jimmy needs our help to survive.
