Hi, my name is Heather and I am making this page for Jimmy Phillips on behalf of my (not so-tech savvy) dad, Crosby Holland. Crosby heard of Jimmy's hard-fought medical battles of the past couple of years and the fact that Jimmy lost some of his insurance (from a job he's held for many, many years). Somehow my dad also heard about go-fund-me and asked me for some help.
I've known Jimmy most of my life. His baby sister, Cindy Phillips Bennett, was my first best friend and I spent many of my elementary years aiding in the torment of her sweet and patient mom.
This is a summary of what Jimmy has been through from Cindy: A couple of years ago, he had hip surgery at Emory and it was awesome! About one year ago, he had the other hip replaced at Newnan Piedmont using the robot. It was fine the first couple of days, but the incision wouldn’t close up and they said it was fine. Within two weeks, he had a massive staph infection in his hip. They had to go back in and clean it out and redo the surgery. He’s had major issues since then. They have never gotten all of the infection out of the wound. He’s had multiple visits to the Dr. and they have just given him medicine to treat the infection. It has gone to the other leg now, and caused issues in his knee. He needs a total knee replacement now but can’t do it because of the infection. This past May, they put in a port to give him medication. About a week after the medicine ends, the infection comes back with a vengeance. Different areas of his body swell up and have infections. He begins to hallucinate and has tremor-like seizures. It affects his speech significantly. This happened again about two weeks ago. The infection traveled from his hip to his knee, to his ankle, and then to his hand. By the time they got to the hospital and got him admitted and partly stable, they ended up having to clean his hand out in surgery. They were supposed to do an MRI but the machine was broken……. They sent him home after two weeks with another port and told him they were trying to schedule a body scan but they have no idea when they can get him scheduled.
As you can imagine Jimmy has accrued many thousands of dollars of medical bills. His wife tries to work as much as possible, but often has to stay home to care for Jimmy. Any funds raised will go directly to Jimmy's account for paying off medical bills.
