On the 7th, Jimmy Bowen was rushed to a hospital an hour away from home due to the lack of beds in-state. He was in critical but stable condition, and while his body showed signs of improving, it came to light on the 11th that he had irreversible brain damage. Two days later, he was taken off of life support. Jimmy had type 1 diabetes, a fact unknown to us until it was too late; he had developed an unexpected case of diabetic ketoacidosis which quickly escalated.
He had graduated from Oklahoma State University with his M.S. in Plant and Soil Sciences and was working on his doctorate at the University of Kentucky before returning home to take care of his aging parents. Nobody could predict that he would go before them.
With such a large heart, Jimmy was an amazing son, brother, uncle, and friend. He did everything he possibly could for his family throughout his lifetime and was set to begin teaching next year to pass on his vast amount of knowledge to a new generation. Words are far from enough to describe how much he meant to each of us in our own individual ways, and even after his passing, he wished to help others through organ donation.
He did not have life insurance, so we must ask you for assistance. The money from this fundraiser will primarily go to the cremation costs, as well as copies of his death certificate to close his accounts with. Any funds left over will be put towards his memorial service next spring. We thank you in advance for your contribution.
