UPDATE:
I am sad to say that my father lost his battle with cancer on the morning of July 29th, 2015. I am overwhelmed with joy to see how much support we have gotten this far, and I am so thankful to everyone who donated.
At this point, I have decided to change the name of the campaign to Jim's Funeral Fund. We are still taking donations and will continue to take them until we have reached our goal.
Thank you once again to everyone for their amazing support and prayers.

My name is Anna, and my father has stage 4 liver cancer.

My father has lived a healthy life for the entirety of his 55 years. He had a steady job as an IT Technician at a local hospital, and made a comfortable salary. However, in April of this year, he got the shock of his life.

He went into the hospital for a routine blood check, and his bilirubin levels were unnaturally high. After several more tests and exams, my family and I were informed that he had stage 4 liver cancer, and that it had spread to his ribs and lymphnodes. The news was unbelivable, and we were told the survival rate was grim. Adding to the stress was the fact that my mother and father were no longer married: they had finalized a divorce earlier in the year, leaving the finances divided.

At this time, I was finishing my freshman year of college at the University of New Mexico. My 16-year old sister was completing her sophomore year of high school, and my mother was working for an acconting firm. The divorce had hit us hard financially,  as we had moved out and rented a house. The cancer news was another blow to the stomach, emotionally and financially. My father was placed on short term and eventually long term disability, meaning that he would no longer be able to support the family as he had before. Chemotheraphy and radiation, the two main treatments available for his type of cancer, were taxing on the body and were very expensive. My father decided to seek alternative treatment in Mexico, which has helped, but nevertheless the treatment is costly and my family doesn't have the funds to completely support him.

Now, I'm headed back to college in the fall and my family and I have to move back and live with my father because we can't afford an around-the-clock caretaker.  This money would help with paying for the rest of our rent, bills for my father's house, and his medication.

No one should ever have to go through the pain of seeing a loved one die of cancer. It is unbelievably sad for me to know that my father will not be here to see my college graduation or walk me down the aisle at my wedding. I wish that this did not have to happen to my family, but it did, and I am asking for your support in this difficult time.

Only God knows what will happen to my father. Your prayers and thoughts are greatly appreciated and I will do my very best to keep everyone updated on how he is doing.
