Jimbo and Pana are some of the more common nicknames we use when referring to Jim, but Mr. Selfless is the most appropriate. He is the sort of person that would do anything to help you - from mowing your lawn, assisting with your gardening, dropping off a carton of milk in the late evening so you don’t have to venture out early the next morning or being your taxi driver or courier. You just need to name the activity and Jimbo says ‘YES’ faster than the drop of a hat.
Earlier this year, Jimbo was referred to a haematologist to manage his anaemia, who immediately sent him off for some urgent bloods and a CT scan but not before issuing a warning that ‘something sinister’ was going on. In his usual jovial way, Jim joked about how he would ‘pass’ from cancer just like his late father and brother (who died 8 and 4 years ago respectively).
One week later, blood cancer was identified. Two weeks later, incurable blood cancer was formally diagnosed via a bone marrow biopsy. MULTIPLE MYELOMA are two very new words that Jimbo and the family use as if we are referring to a person. FIVE years is what Jimbo was given, and although we pray every day for more years, it could also be fewer.
In whatever time is left, we want to spoil Mr Selfless…. and so, this GoFundMe page was born. We are restoring a version of one of Jimbo’s first loves – his Holden HQ Kingswood! We are aiming to complete this top-secret mission without Jimbo finding out. The plan is to surprise him before Christmas which will provide precious time for drives to some of his favourite coastal points to indulge in another one of his loves – fishing, particularly now that (as he constantly reminds us!) he is a ‘senior’ and no longer requires an angler’s licence. And…. if the fish aren’t biting, all will be sorted with a good old ‘fish and chips’ order on the way home….of course pretending that the fish are part of his ‘catch for the day’!
You can join our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates of Jimbo’s Journey and opt to purchase a t-shirt as your donation to the car restoration. Alternatively, any donation via GoFundMe is much appreciated. No donation is too small. Every dollar helps.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING PART OF JIMBO’s JOURNEY, PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE AND REMEMBER SSHHHHHH IT’S A SECRET!
