James (Jimmy) Rathmann
4/14/1987 - 1/2/2020
Son of Dennis and Karen Rathmann; Brother to Michael Rathmann; Nephew, Cousin, and Friend to more than we can count.
Many in the St. Louis community know of the wonderful highs and the tragic lows of the Rathmann family. If you have not had the pleasure of knowing them personally, we would like to share their story with you.
Dennis and Karen are well known in the South St. Louis County area, better known as D.T. and Toots. They raised their two sons, Jimmy & Mikey, in the St. Margaret Mary Alacoque's Catholic parish and later SLUH. Following in their dad's footsteps, both boys had large personalities that could attract friends from all walks of life. The Rathmanns were a stranger to no one. Their open door policy at their house had a special way of always making you feel like family.
In 2003, the beginning of bad news started to roll in for the Rathmanns when D.T. was diagnosed with aggressive throat cancer. He fought tirelessly but lost his battle to cancer in April 2013. Amongst his struggle, Toots was also diagnosed with breast cancer. She has now beaten it twice as she clung to life for her boys. More tragedy struck when Mikey was paralyzed from an accident following his high school graduation from SLUH. This family has persevered through more devastation than most could ever possibly handle. As Toots, Jimmy and Mikey tried to navigate through life without D.T. by their side, life became increasingly difficult. Mikey continues to struggle often with medical complications related to his paralysis. Toots works extremely hard to keep up with the expenses. Jimmy met his own struggles as he found himself more lost than ever when he had anticipated such a bright future before losing his dad.
Jimmy was a smart, kind young man who endured a tremendous amount of loss and pain in his life, and then he left this earth too soon. His family and friends will miss him dearly and will remember him fondly.
We are asking for donations to help cover the cost of Jimmy's memorial expenses. We ask that you offer even the smallest of donations to help Toots and Mikey say goodbye to another one of their family members. Anything will help. Please continue to keep them in your prayers not only while they grieve the loss of Jimmy, but also while Mikey is in and out of the hospital battling pneumonia as Toots tends to him.
We invite you to join us at Jimmy's Memorial Service on Saturday, January 18th at 11:00am at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church to celebrate his life.
