Legacy building for Jim Prim

As a wife, I never thought I would be sharing this news about my rock, my dearest, Jim Prim. Thank you all for reading our story and for your help and support to lift us during this time.
Nearly two years ago, Jim was diagnosed with advanced metastatic prostate cancer following a routine exam. As a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam, Jim is no stranger to combat. With the battlefield so close to home, Jim knew exactly what he needed to do – he needed to fight. Committed to beating this disease, Jim has endured five different courses of chemotherapy treatment, radiation, multiple surgeries, and an ever-evolving medication regimen, all in an aggressive and often painful fight to beat this. The treatments initially slowed the advance of the cancer, but it continues to ravage on. A year into treatment, Jim was diagnosed with ureter cancer which shifted the treatment focus to try to combat it. In doing so, the prostate cancer continued to metastasize, taking a toll on Jim’s body, and treatments are no longer working. Jim has now moved to home hospice care. Through it all, Jim’s resilience in the face adversity continues to be inspiring.
Jim is a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The center of Jim’s entire world is his family. I have been blessed to be married to Jim for 40 years. He is the proud father of Theresa, Mychal, Tanya, and Jeremy. Jim’s eleven grandkids (with one more on the way) are the light of his life and continue to bring him so much happiness. From school drop-off and pick-ups, spring and holiday concerts, sporting events and babysitting duty, Jim has always happily been there and wouldn’t have it any other way. Now, the fight for life has become a fight for legacy – it's time to help Jim make beautiful, soul-sustaining memories with his family and friends with the remaining time left.
Taking a page from Jim's book, let's rally around and help Jim. This battle is taking its toll. Daily living expenses and mounting medical bills, despite insurance, make it difficult to take time away from work as we shift priorities to spend remaining time with Jim. Now, more than ever, we need the freedom to be together. Please consider donating what you can to help. Please keep Jim and our family in your thoughts and prayers.

Milwaukee has always been home to Jim. His time working at the YMCA provided him with the chance to connect deeply with his community. Jim taught countless children and adults how to swim. It was the most fulfilling job he ever had. Jim, an avid sports fan, loves his Brewers and Bucks, especially taking in a game with his family and friends. Jim served on the board responsible for building the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Milwaukee’s lakefront. He wanted his brothers in arms honored in a permanent way. Everything about Jim revolves around doing for and serving others.
