Nicole Ludwig - Post Lung Transplant

My name is Kathy Engelstad, and I and my siblings, together with our entire family, are creating this GoFundMe account for our brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Nicole Ludwig, and their family.

As you may or may not know, Nicole received a double lung transplant* at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, California on April 18, 2023, and is still recovering at Stanford. Once she is released from the hospital, which is at least an hour’s drive from their home (depending on the traffic), Nicole will be required to spend 3 months at a nearby apartment and will need care around the clock, most of which is not covered by insurance.

We are raising funds because Jim and Nicole are facing a long road ahead of them filled with many extra expenses, including medical bills, daily travel to and from Palo Alto, full-time care for Nicole for at least three months, after-school care for their son, and added household expenses. We are hoping to bring a little joy (and a little relief) back into their lives! All donations will go directly to Jim and Nicole’s bank account, so it can be used immediately for these expenses.

*Nicole also received a heart transplant 10 years ago and one of the immunosuppressant drugs she was prescribed caused irreparable damage to her lungs and forced her to be on oxygen at all times.
