Jim Lee’s Transport and Treatments

Donation protected
First and foremost the Lee family is grateful for each and every one of you and the support through everything that has happened with my dad. We have not updated anyone in awhile but the last 5 months have been a different kind of challenge for the Lee family, especially my dad.

My dad has been suffering from bed sores from not being as mobile as he used to be. Even though we had a wound care team coming in to take care of it, one of them got to a point of infection and so bad that it got down to the bone. He had to go into an emergency surgery to have that area of skin removed which ended up leaving an incredibly large hole that then required a wound vac which will have to be on for possibly a year.

After this he ended up in a short term rehab facility where they continued to look after his wound. He was there for several weeks then returned home. After a week of being home, he ended up back in the hospital because other areas of his skin were breaking down and starting new sores. We felt like we were losing a battle. We just weren’t equipped to take care of him at home. He stayed in the hospital for a few days and was then transferred to another facility. Again he was there for several weeks but at least started some regular therapy while there.

During this stay another wound care team was looking after him and noticed a spot that they were concerned about. So we had him transported to the dermatologist to make sure it wasn’t anything serious. Unfortunately we found out it was cancer and requires cancer treatments. The options that they gave us aren’t realistic for him but we are going to do what we can. The only way to make sure they get it all is surgery but it would require a 6-8 surgery ending in a skin graft on his face but the doctors and us aren’t sure he can handle a surgery that long. Our other options are radiation or chemo which will require several trips and appointments. And the specialist that he is seeing is at Loyola in Maywood.

With that being said, we can no longer transport my dad ourselves because it has become too difficult and unsafe so we have to use a transport company. We have researched and used many and finally found one that is reasonable but still costs a lot of money. Each trip to is $160 and depending on what the chemo doctor says he may need to go several times a week for a couple months. At that rate, my mom won’t be able to afford that but we really don’t have any other options. Just in the last 2 weeks it’s cost almost $700 for only a couple trips.

On top of just transport costs there are a lot of medical supplies required to keep him safe from infection, now that he’s home so we can really use some help to cover the costs.

Over the past several years, we have had the best support system a family can ask for. We are grateful and appreciate everyone more than you know. I know we’ve said that before but we can’t say it enough.

Please feel free to share- my dad needs your help! Thank you!!
