My name is Jim Kaiser. I live in Chesterfield, Missouri, and I am 58 years old with MS (Multiple Sclerosis). I have been battling MS for well over 25 years. Well over a year ago, I embarked on an incredible journey. A journey to compete in both the Winter Paralympics in 2026 and the Summer Paralympics in 2028. Currently, I am the oldest athlete on the US Ski Team and the second oldest in the world. There is an athlete in Japan who is the oldest at 62 years old.
Unfortunately, like so many other things, the funding for the Paralympics has been greatly reduced. Therefore, the qualifying Paralympians are responsible for raising more money on their behalf. My event for the Winter Paralympics will be downhill skiing, and for the Summer Paralympics, it will be bench pressing. In July of this year, I was fortunate enough to win two gold medals at the nationals competition in bench pressing. The first gold medal was for winning my competition, and the second gold medal was for setting a new record. I was as shocked as anyone else! I like to think of this as giving the big finger to MS and to age. I may have MS, but MS does not have ME!!! I want to prove that people with disabilities who are older can do incredible things if they put their minds to it.
