Our dear friend Jim Hunnicutt passed away July 8th due to complications from lung surgery. He is survived by his wife Tanya Roesijadi and their son Kade who just turned 13. We are hoping to raise at least $12,000 to help pay for the unexpected costs and to make it possible for Tanya to spend a few months with Kade before having to return to work.
Jim was diagnosed with Mesothelioma (lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure) in the fall of 2022. After many consultations and much deliberation, he and Tanya decided he would undergo surgery to remove his bad lung with the hopes that it would extend his life and time with his family for a few more years. During the spring of 2023, he underwent chemotherapy to slow the spread of cancer and on June 22nd his lung was removed. The surgery was successful and the initial reports of Jim doing laps around the hospital wing were very encouraging. Then around a week in, when he was expecting to be discharged the complications began. A few days later his oxygen levels dropped and he was put on a breathing tube. What had seemed so hopeful a few days earlier turned into a nightmare and on July 8th he passed away from complications of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and mesothelioma.
Jim was beloved in Seattle's music community. He drummed in the Dwindles, Pure Joy, Llama, and Braly Sangster and was the lead singer/drummer in the Paul Lynde Fan Club. He recently recorded a batch of songs under the moniker Honeycult. His wife Tanya put together this video as a tribute to Jim featuring the Honeycult song "Pray For The Mechanic" which encapsulates so much of what Jim was about and shares his fears and his hopes around this situation he was in. He was a soft-spoken wise man with a wry sense of humor. He will be missed terribly and we are brokenhearted.
There will be a memorial to celebrate Jim's life at Tim's Tavern in White Center, South Seattle on September 16th. We will update this page with details as the date draws nearer.
