On Sunday August 13th, our Dad was rushed into Henry Mayo Hospital as he became sick very fast. He has managed with autoimmune liver disease for many years. However, we did not expect him to be in need of a donor and this fast. He was transferred to two Kaiser hospitals. The doctors recommended UCLA hospital needed to see him. Once UCLA did their own testing, it was confirmed our dad would need a liver transplant. They even told us to expect in within the week. He was put on the transplant list and in 24 hours, they were able to find a match. Our dad went into surgery on Friday, August 25th and the team of surgeons had to stop the surgery due to low blood pressure and a blockage. We were told this surgery could be done in two parts for the safety of our Dad. He is currently in ICU on a ventilator and we were told to expect him back to surgery by Monday. We have prayed around him and spoke to him, hoping if he can hear us, he is feeling calm and at peace. We will keep everyone updated as we keep moving forward. As of now, we just look forward to seeing him awake again. While our dad will be on the road of recovery, he will not be able to go back to work for at least 6 months. Our mom, Sherry, works as a hairdresser and also helps the weight of monthly expenses. However, during the time of recovery, my mom will need to be our dads sole caregiver. This includes commuting back and forth from UCLA in the weeks after recovery and many months ahead. As well as paying for medications he absolutely needs to make sure his body will not reject his new liver. A new healthy lifestyle that will support our dad's immune system while the doctors evaluate how well he is responding to his new medications. We are asking for anyone to donate, any amount, to help our parents be able to focus on our dad's recovery. In order to see him living life and also going back to work healthy and strong... It has been the scariest but most beautiful thing to watch our dad interact with those who have showed him so much love and concern. He has been overwhelmed by it all. I, along with my mom and siblings, are holding onto the days we have spent together with our dad leading into the OR room. He has a long recovery and we hope this will spread to many people who can help and most importantly pray for him right now, that his body is strong to finish this surgery. We love him very much and he has always been there for us and has always been the one to let us know it will be okay. Even right before surgery, he was the one comforting us. He is so loved and missed the second we are away from him. Anything will help and is more than appreciated.
