Hello all!
As some of you may know, last week my father Jim Engel, underwent open heart surgery at the Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix. Dr. Robert Strumpf was his cardiologist and Dr. Joseph Hessl was the thoracic surgeon. I can not express my gratitude for the wonderful care they have both given my father throughout this entire situation.
My dad is still in the hospital, working on his recovery and getting stronger each day. We are hoping that he can soon move to the next phase of Cardiac Rehabilitation . The next couple of weeks and then months are going to be extremely challenging for him, as he is still in a lot of pain but I have faith that he can fight through this process. My Aunt Mindy, Uncle Ken, Aunt Jane and Tony Sacks have been a tremendous help, sticking by my father every day, I can not thank them enough for what they have done for us. My Aunt Mindy and Uncle Ken now need to return to State College as they have businesses to run which leaves my Aunt Jane and Uncle Tony in Phoenix to care for my dad. I will be traveling back and forth from Chicago to help as often as I am able.
No matter what you think you have saved for such a crisis, not many can ever be prepared for a procedure like this and the hurdles that one faces in recovery. We are lucky to have a wonderful family support system. With that said, my dad will need 24 hour care for quite some time of Cardiac Rehab which involves uncovered , self -pay programs that provide round the clock care, EKG monitoring during supervised exercise, blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen level saturation monitored as well as teaching and working with him to create a change of life pattern of living and a second chance for a healthier future. My dad is lucky to have good coverage on his insurance plan, however no one is ever prepared for the enormous cost of the after care for such a critical surgery, especially if you live alone. The costs for his extensive care and rehabilitation are well beyond what we could have ever imagined but we strive to focus on what is most important, my father's recovery.
If you could support my GoFundMe by making a donation for my father and help my family through this rehabilitation process and then share it with your network, I would greatly appreciate it. I know that money can be tight, so please know that even $5 helps us get closer to our goal! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them.
