Jim Cusumano's Open Heart Surgery

Jim Cusumano; a very funny, uplifting, positive, and independent father and friend, recently found out he must undergo triple or quadruple bypass surgery on September 18, 2018.
As of now, he is out of consistent work, as any strain on his body could affect him in very life-threatening ways. Without the open-heart surgery, doctors are not confident on his quality of life. I am proud of my Dad’s faith that God will take care of his current situation. And in turn, I am learning to have faith that this season will too pass, and that it will all be in God’s hands. Below is a more detailed account of my Dad’s recent medical situation. Please consider in lending a hand financially, as well as lifting up prayers now and on the 18th of September. Your support and encouragement are greatly appreciated in this overwhelming time.
“If you were to ask me how 2018 is treating me, my one-word answer would be challenging. The beginning of 2018 started with some hearing difficulties, normal for me, as I was born with nerve damage to both ears. Nonetheless, I got answers; nothing was too serious.
Just as I was dealing with these medical issues, another traumatic thing happened. Due a major slow down, my company had to implement a company-wide lay off. Unfortunately, I was in that group. Yet, I stayed positive knowing God has a plan for me. Something great will come about this. After a while, I landed a job as a cook within the assisted living arena. Things seemed to be looking up.
To my surprise, after my first day on the new job, I received a phone call from a company I reached out to in the beginning of my unemployment. I decided I would consider the opportunity and I had a phone interview; I was offered the job on the spot. I figured I would go through the pre-employment process and see whether or not I would pass the DOT physical. I would go through a series of different tests, one of which was a stress test. On the day of the stress test I was feeling quite confident that I would do well. I was hit with a heavy dose reality, I did poorly on the test. Later that Saturday evening, I received a call from my primary care physician. She said I needed to contact the cardiologist on Monday. I did and he said the test suggested blockage. He scheduled an angiogram for the following Thursday. He also stated if it wasn’t complicated he would put a stent in. When I went in for the procedure, they found a total of 3 blocked arteries, one of which was totally blocked. Stents were not the answer. Instead, fixing this medical surprise requires a triple or quadruple bypass. Without this surgery, living in this condition would be life-threatening. My surgery is scheduled for September 18, 2018.
Unfortunately, this causes me to lose the new job opportunity. I am also unable to work prior to the surgery at the cooking job. They did give me a Leave of Absence for 3 months. I have insurance but, with the leave I have zero income coming in for the next 3 months. With all of the challenges in the first half of the year I am wiped out financially. I know God has a plan. I am keeping faith asking my friends and family for help.”
If unable to help financially, a meal-train will be set up shortly, as recovery is a long and slow process. Please reach out to me if you have any questions! Thank you so much❤️
