Jim Croce Preservation Fund

Highspire Corner is a magical place of inspiration and creativity. Jim Croce lived on Highspire with his family and wrote some of his most famous songs right in the kitchen. The iconic, historic eight person outhouse is on the cover of You Don’t Mess Around With Jim. That cover was photographed in the back yard of the Croce's old apartment. Songs were written all over this historic Chester County corner property and an all-star list of musicians regularly visited the property and the old barn. The years have not been kind to this amazingly unique structure or the home that still stands on Highspire Rd. The outhouse is not safe and will not be standing much longer if we don’t do something about it soon! We want to create a safe space where people can visit, with dreams of makers fairs, lecture series', art exhibits and more. Because of the unique design, the cost to repair and restore this privy and home is much more than we ever anticipated. We are doing our best but could really use the help of music lovers and history lovers alike. The historic marker honoring Jim Croce was just placed in April encouraging more visitors than ever before. Safety is a big concern and we don’t want anyone to get hurt. We have an amazing architect, a historic architecture specialist and the historic commission teaming up to make sure the restorations are as true to history as possible! We want to honor the past of Chester County and one of our favorite musicians of all time! Thank you for your help.
