My dad Jim Moody and his girlfriend Cheryl Hall lost two homes and most everything they own in the #CampFire that burned through the town of Paradise, CA. Right now they're grateful that their family is okay, but I'm setting up this fund for them as the reality of rebuilding sets in.
In September, my dad and Cheryl bought a house in Paradise. My dad works 6 ten hour night shifts, so they've slowly been painting and fixing it up to move in. The last improvement was the hardwood floors that were scheduled to be installed next Tuesday.
Around 7am on Thursday Nov. 8th, my dad received a phone call from his friend asking if they had smoke at their nearby Concow rental home. My dad looked outside and saw flames in the backyard. My dad, Cheryl, Cheryl's granddaughter Linnea and 3 year-old great grandson Christopher quickly packed a few things and drove to the new house in Paradise. What they found there was even worse. It took them 1.5 hours to drive what usually takes 15 minutes along Skyway and watched their town burn.
They've been staying together in a hotel, and their next move isn't into their new dream home. Right now they plan to buy a trailer to park in Cheryl's brother's backyard where there will be 7 people sharing one bathroom. As of yet, there is no confirmation that both or either houses are destroyed, but judging by the fire's path and what structures are confirmed burned, chances are extremely slim that they're still standing. EDIT: both homes are confirmed burned. My dad is most bummed about losing all of his tools. His job site in Oroville has been temporarily closed due to the fire, and his hours are reduced in the winter so any money raised will go to the purchase of a trailer and rebuilding costs. Monetary donations are set to go directly into my dad's account.
