Recently though, he's taken a turn for the worse. He has recently started on a fast decline which has caused him to no longer want to eat/drink, he can no longer move on his own and his stomach is sinking in on itself. These progressions have caused caretakers to believe he may only have a few days to weeks left to live what is left of his life.
My family is asking for donations to help with calling hours and crememation costs since they will all be out of pocket.
With dementia you lose your loved one twice. My grandpa and grandma lived with my family my entire life and helped raise my brother and I even after raising three kids of their own. He was always a kind and gentle soul who made time for you whenever it was needed. He is a husband, father, grandfather, and recently became a great-grandfather.
Unfortunately, he no longer knows who any of us are due to his loss of memory. Now we're on the path of having to watch his own body shut down on him. Between work schedules my grandma, parents, brother, uncle and I (along with hospice in the past few months) have all done what we can over the years to be there to spend time with him and take care of him without having to move him to a nusring home or hospital. Now we're trying to do what we can to prepare for what is most likely to be the too near future.
Any donation or share is appreciated beyond what could be imagined.
