Jim and Mary Hodgins

On Saturday, June 25th, Jim Hodgins of Gladwin was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident on Beaverton Clare Rd. Jim is a loving husband, beloved father of 3, Papa of 8, and great grandpa of 1. During his daily commute, Jim faced a head on collision with a deer while traveling 55mph. He was thrown from his motorcycle and ended up in a deep ditch near Bailey Lake Rd. Badly injured, this strong, brave man waited over two hours in the ditch before he was found by a passerby.

Jim was taken to the trauma unit in Midland where they began treatment on a long list of injuries including 9 broken ribs, many broken in multiple locations, a broken sternum, broken leg, lacerated lung, and separated shoulder. He spent over a week at midland hospital, where his condition continued to worsen.

On Sunday, July 3rd, Jim was fully sedated, intubated and transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint - where a lifesaving operation would hopefully take place. He arrived at Hurley in septic shock as an infection had taken over his blood stream. He had pneumonia, and at this point - two weeks after his accident- he remains fully sedated and intubated as he fights for his life - still awaiting the operation he needs to address his extensive injuries.

The medical team at Hurley has been working around the clock in an effort to bring Jim back to a healthy enough state to undergo the surgery he so badly needs - a reconstructive surgery that will rebuild his ribcage, repair extensive chest injuries, and by the grace of God, get his badly injured lungs working so that Jim can breathe on his own again. Thanks to the incredible team at Hurley, Jim has started to make slow progress toward healing enough to schedule the operation.

Since the accident, Jim’s wife, Mary has not left his side. She is currently living out of a suitcase at Flint Hotels - where she will likely stay for the coming weeks as Jim continues his battle. The hotel bills are quickly adding up, along with fuel and food expenses. Together they’re facing many months of lost wages, and what is quickly adding up to an insurmountable amount of medical bills.

If you know Jim and Mary, you know the type of kind, caring people they are. Always willing to help those in need. They’re selfless people who are known to put other’s needs before their own. If you’re willing and able, please consider donating to help cover food, fuel, hotel, lost wages, and rapidly increasing medical expenses - any amount helps!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much. From the Hodgins Family.
