Hi, my name is Myranda. The Amick family is helping my grandparents with trying to navigate life after a house fire that started in their basement the morning after Easter, leaving them displaced. The massive basement fire destroyed everything in its path downstairs, and the fire left the entire first floor in utter ruins. Walls destroyed, ceilings gone, and everything in between, destroyed. Absolutely devastating. Many windows had to be shattered, a hole in the roof, and so many memories gone. We are wanting to make sure they have enough money to slowly get back to as normal as they can get, we will be housing them while we figure out the next steps on the home. Unfortunately, our grandma broke her pelvis due to falling while trying to get out of the house, and they both were exposed and treated for smoke inhalation. On top of the physical damage to the house, the fire also took the lives of two of my grandmas rescued brother cats, who weren’t even a year old. While our grandfather is still working as a Columbus firefighter and my grandmother had plans of possibly retiring from Columbus city schools, we want to make sure they’re both able to take time off and heal physically and emotionally. Hoping to help take any additional financial stressors off them. We are extremely thankful the community has blessed our grandparents with several donations already with items including a bed, gift cards and money.
