Jim and Margie need our support

Sometimes you are lucky enough to cross paths and connect with people who have a profound impact on your life, for me these people are my chosen family Jim and Margie.

I was a 19 year old, vulnerable single mother when I met these sophisticated, fun loving vintage aficionados. I had just started exploring Sydney’s Vintage sub-culture and was excited at finding some like minded people and completely overwhelmed and nervous about stepping into this world. They took me under their wings and shared their passions with me with such humble kindness and care. Jim and Margie have been the most stable and supportive pillars of my adult life and have been beside me watching my son grow, through my mother’s cancer battles, my own ongoing illnesses and the death of both of my parents.

Jim and Margie are the most loving, kind, generous, fun seeking people you could ever meet always exploring rich experiences and grabbing life with both hands savouring every opportunity for happiness.

Over the last 12 months these two wonderful people have been battling huge challenges through devastating events that continue to unfold.
It’s my turn to show up and offer them support and through this campaign I invite you to join me.

Sadly, 12 months ago Jim suffered a massive stroke that he was lucky to survive. Since the stroke it has been an endless roller coaster of long term hospital stays, attempts at rehabilitation, very short returns to home and then back on merry go-round of hospital stays and battling through on-going health issues.
Jim now needs 24 hour care and has recently been moved to an aged care facility which is the best outcome after an incredibly difficult time. Unfortunately, the ongoing health issues continue and Jim has since suffered a heart attack, back on the merry go-round of hospital to nursing home and is undergoing treatment and management for his heart condition.

Stop for a minute… and think about the magnitude of the above. The impact and challenges of the last 12 months for Jim and Margie, losing everything about the life you had built and living with the endless uncertainty, one step forward, two steps back, the ongoing and relentless emotional, physical and financial burden.

Then… throw in a global pandemic and all of the immense pressures, challenges and difficulties that Covid has brought to all our lives. Transfer your own experiences into the settings of hospitals, nursing homes and vulnerable and challenging health circumstances. Jim and Margie have been isolated from each other, from family and friends.
Margie has not been able to visit Jim for the past week, or see him for Christmas with the nursing home in lockdown dealing with the recent Covid outbreak.
Now, the unthinkable has happened and poor Jim has tested positive to Covid and has just been transferred to hospital for monitoring and care.

Jim and Margie’s friends have been offering support along the journey with gifts, food hampers and home maintenance which has been wonderful but as their journey continues and given the recent events and added challenges now is the time for us all to come together and support them in the most tangible and practical way.

It is time to level up our support, we can make a huge difference to both of their lives by coming together as a community and supporting them with the ongoing medical, care and life expenses.

Jim and Margie are two of the most incredible people I have ever met, above all of their remarkable qualities it is their passion that is true magic. Passion for each other, for a life lived to the full, for music and dance, connection, family and friendships and this passion has given them the ability to impact so many people’s lives.
Let’s remind them of this passion and let them know how much they mean to us.

Now is our chance to come together and positively impact the lives of these amazing people who have given so much to others. I hope that you can join me to help.

Sincerely and with a heart full of love for these amazing people,
Pia Xxx
