Jill's Lyme Treatment Fund
Donation protected
Jill, better known to me and my two brothers as mom, is a 41 year old hard working, dedicated and loving person who has been dealing with medical issues for the past 14 years. Mom has had numerous tests including an MIR that suggested Lyme disease but since her blood came back negative the Doctors never took that into consideration as Canada has insufficient tests for Lyme Disease because they do not recognize Chronic Lyme Disease. She has been told by many doctors she is a walking medical mystery. After talking to a family member mom finally decided to send a sample of her blood to IGeneX Inc in California to be tested for Lyme. She sent the blood sample out Feb 10th 2016 and received a positive result March 1st 2016.
As a daughter it kills me to see my mom be in so much pain, to see her suffer everyday physically and mentally and knowing there is not a lot I can do to help her. So that’s why I created this Go Fund me page for her.
Before mom became ill she was able to do so much, go to hockey or basketball games, go out with friends, go to work, volunteer her time helping out with things like minor hockey (team mom, fundraising Etc.), she has even done a few benefit dinners for people in the community, and now it’s finally time to help her. Even getting out of bed is an everyday struggle. She can’t do anything without being in chronic pain and fatigue. There is nothing mom wants more than to just feel normal again, she wishes she could be involved more with my little brothers hockey like she use to with my older brother and I, but she can’t. Even to watch a hockey or basketball games makes her come home in pain and completely exhausted, which pretty much puts her on bed rest. Lyme disease has made mom’s body like that of an 80 year old's, that’s how much it affects your body.
Mom headed down to Maine, that March, to start a treatment. Because Lyme Disease is not recognized here in Canada, not only did she have to travel for the treatment, but she had to pay everything out of her own pocket; up to $1000/month. After spending thousands of dollars and taking up to 40 pills a day, mom quit her treatment because it just wasn’t working. After thinking there was no hope, mom was lucky enough to be in contact with a lady named Erica, whose young daughter also has Lyme disease. Mom and Erica have done hours of research trying to find places they can get treatment that is successful. They finally came across Lyme Laser Centers of New England located in Massachusetts.
Seeing the look on her face when she finally found Lyme Laser Centers of New England was a smile I haven’t seen on her face in a while, as she finally had hope. But it was heart breaking when she found out the cost of a new treatment. This treatment is something she needs so every penny counts.
This is a 12 week treatment that will involve flying or driving to Massachusetts, once a week for a two day stay until the treatment is done, total cost is approximately $20,000 USD. This includes treatment, travel, meals and hotels. The treatment has a 90+% success rate and we hope mom will be one of those 90+%. Since Lyme disease is not recognized in Canada there is no governmental funding to help cover the cost; she has to pay it all out of pocket as insurance will not cover it.
Mom is only able to work part time due to exhaustion and neurological sideffects, so her funds are very limited. April 28th Mom travelled to Lyme Laser Centers of New England who told her she needs immediate treatment starting as early as May 5th, so we are in desperate need as soon as possible. If she doesn't get this treatment soon neurological problems could become permanent. This is a disease that masks itself because of this mom may not look sick on the outside but she certainly feels it on the inside.
No matter what the donation is, our family is very thankful for you taking the time to not only read this but to donate your own money so mom can get the treatment she needs. If I could send a personal hug I would, because that’s how much this means to us. Again thank you all for everything! You guys are awesome.
Thank You,
Ally
