Jills Cancer Fund

In late March, in the early days of Covid-19, our mother, wife, grammy  and sister, Diana (Jill) Hendricks, was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma.  This cancer, a form of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma is a most aggressive cancer. With the current test results, Jill has been diagnosed in stage-4 of this devastating cancer.

Just over a month ago, Jill was having pressure on the right side of her face and an abnormal feeling in her throat.   With her long career as a professional dental assistant, she assumed it was dental related. After a dental consultation, an urgent referral to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, CT scan and biopsy, the diagnosis is positive for Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Jill was then referred to a Hematologist who ordered a Pet CT that unfortunately  shows the Cancer has spread to her Lymph Nodes in her neck and the Lymph Node in her Groin. Without immediate treatment, the prognosis is grim; six months to live.

Jill’s positive spirit shines through these difficult days, and we, her family are navigating this new reality.  Her chemotherapy treatment begins today 4/13, with a continuation of treatment requiring hospitalization. With grace, luck, and a team of incredible physicians, she will be admitted to UCSF for a stem cell transplant.

Aside from the physical, emotional and financial toll, much  of the cost is not covered by insurance. The world is suffering with the Covid-19 crisis, yet if you can donate to Jill’s medical fund, we would be grateful.

Thank you for reading our story.  Our family sends love and light to you during this crisis.  If you cannot donate, please  give a share and  please say a prayer for Jill and for those who love her, on her journey to healing.

Blessings and gratitude,

The Young and Hendricks Family.

UPDATE:  Week 9 of Northern California’s Shelter-In-Place because of Covid-19 and week 9 of Jill’s odyssey.

Our family is grateful and humbled by the outpouring of love for our precious mother, wife, grandmother, and sister.  I knew I had to reach out for help, yet I never imagined the response.   The simple words, thank you, pale in your love's light and care.  Yet, thank you will need to do until I can thank each one of you for your support.  Jill’s treatments would not be happening right now if it were not for you.

Jill has completed the first of two rounds of chemotherapy: a single clinic day and a three-day hospital admission.  The side effects have been real, yet she is staying strong.  I believe the additional IV therapy she is receiving is helping mitigate the more severe side effects of the powerful chemotherapy treatments.

The tumor in her nasopharyngeal airway has shrunk and Jill feels it to be half the original size.  This is significant news and shows her body is responding to the treatments.

There are long roads ahead, yet buoyed by the letters and phone calls of love and support, her determination is firm. She is fighting the fight and with your love and care, she will continue to believe in the power of prayer, friendship, and family.

With love and gratitude,

The Young and Hendricks family.
