Hello, my name is Robyn Williams Blackmon and I am raising money for my mama (Jill) and my brother in law (Nick) for travel and lodging expenses to include lost wages. Years ago, my mama was diagnosed with liver disease (NASH). I was small back then so I wasn’t really sure what that meant for her, I just knew that she was sick. She was told at one point that she had 6 months to live. Fast-forward to 2016, she was working as a registered nurse, very active in the lives of her family and she was diagnosed with two types of cancer. She had both thyroid cancer and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent surgery as part of her treatment. During or right after her surgery, she experienced three strokes which, according to her neurologist, should have been her demise. She survived and unfortunately lost most of her vision and parts of her memory and was no longer able to work. She completed radiation therapy for her cancers and was eventually cleared of her cancer diagnosis. Shortly thereafter she started to decline even more in her health. As her liver disease has progressed, she has required multiple fluid removal treatments from her lungs. Leading to today, after many trips to oschner in New Orleans, she was placed on the liver transplant list and the light at the end of this horribly cold tunnel was growing larger! After much research, my brother in law, Nick, has come to her wanting to donate part of his liver to her. He works as a nurse at Forrest General Hospital on the “heart team”. This is a very selfless act that my sister and I both wish we were able to perform but neither of us are a match. They have finally been approved for surgery in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania at UPMC where they do live donor transplants weekly. They will require travel, food and lodging for up to three months post op for them including my daddy and sister as their caregivers. For two nurses, one of which is on a fixed income after cancer, this will not be easily afforded. My mama is our walking miracle, my best friend and our world. I know that this is in God’s hands and He’s in control! Please pray for our family as we set out on this most difficult journey ahead!
