Jill and Phil Nelson

My name is Lorri, and I started this fundraiser in hopes of helping my long time friend Jill Nelson and her husband Phil.

On October 13th, Phil Nelson was experiencing a lot of back pain. He and Jill went to the ER and found what they thought was a disc issue, which actually turned out to be metastatic cancer that had spread to his spine. After a PET scan they found hot spots in his stomach, pancreas and liver. After 12 days in the hospital, doctors have yet to determine where the cancer originated. Phil has completed 10 rounds of radiation, and will start chemotherapy November 8th. The rest of his treatment plan is unknown at this time. Due to the back issues Phil was having and being confined to a wheelchair, his work placed him on temporary disability. His employer is trying to currently determine how to proceed now that the diagnosis is cancer.

Jill is a Dispatch Supervisor for the Nebraska State Patrol and has been working 60+ hours per week to help make up the loss of Phil’s income. Recently, on August 10th, Jill also lost her sister to liver failure.

In the midst of so much grief, Phil & Jill were eagerly awaiting the gift of twin grand babies due in March. On October 25th, her son & his fiancé found, during a routine appointment, that one of the babies was getting all of the nutrients and was growing at a much faster rate than the second baby, who was still very little. They immediately traveled to Denver to see a specialist. While in Denver, on November 1st, they lost the smaller baby.

Among all of the emotional and stressful turmoil they are going through, they are holding on and leaning heavily on each other and praying for constant healing.

I feel that if we can help lift some of the financial burden, it would be a small weight lifted off of their shoulders. The funds will go directly to Phil & Jill to be used however they need. Thank you for donating, and please keep their family in your prayers.
