Jig and I are running an off road marathon in the autumn to help raise funds for repairs at our not for profit shooting club.

As a not-for-profit club we make the sport available to all classes on an equal basis and not just the higher classes or the wealthy. The club is run by an unpaid committee and its members/volunteers.

Clay pigeon shooting is one of the few sports that is a level playing field regardless of age, gender or physical restrictions. Currently 35% of our members are over 70 and still enjoy regular club shoots which not only keeps them social, active and gives a sense of purpose, but also forms friendships and a strong sense of camaraderie.

At Huncote Clay Shooters we only shoot Clays (small round discs), we do not injure, kill or harm any living creature.

Our ancient portacabin is in desperate need of essential repairs to help keep our club open, and as we are a not for profit club, we do not have the surplus funds to pay for it. Jig & I running the marathon is one of the many ways we are trying to raise some much needed funds. If we can get the club cabin in good shape then the club will have the ability to put on a Charity Shooting Experience to help a registered charity raise funds as well as our club.

As our marathon is not going to be a traditional road marathon, it will be much harder in many ways as we will need to navigate the event course ourselves with a map, and it will take us across fields, bridleways, and public footpaths. We will have no idea of the terrain until we are out there doing it. There could be muddy ploughed fields, unknown number of hills, cows (I'm scared of cows!) and we may well go off course and end up running more miles than 26.2!!

We have been training hard so far, and running when we really do not feel like we want to go running. But continue to run we must, until we can run far enough to get us through this challenge! And be in no doubt, we are shattered. All the time. And there are still months of training still to do before we get where we need to be.
