Hello, my name is Taylor and I am fundraising on behalf of Elizabeth Caraballo and her family.
My dear friend Liz was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2010 and underwent treatment and by the grace of God she was able to beat it and has been free of cancer since.
Fast forward to all these years later - On July 15th she and her family went on a cruise which was a vacation that she had planned for a long time and one she was really looking forward to. By mid week she was sent to the ship hospital for shortness of breath where they did a chest x-ray and found what looked to be a mass on her lung however they could not confirm. For the remainder of her family vacation she was instructed to stay in her cabin and rest. The ship hospital staff treated her very well and kept her comfortable with oxygen however when she got off of the ship they told her that she had to immediately go to the hospital for further tests and treatment. Unfortunately they boarded the ship in Florida - about 17 hours away from home. By the time she got off of the ship she was having moderate shortness of breath and developed a cough that was very painful. She decided to drive about two hours from Orlando Florida to Jacksonville Florida where her daughter and sister live and be admitted in a hospital there. She was in the Jacksonville hospital from July 29th - August 8th undergoing tests, CT scans, biopsies and blood work. Sadly, the doctors were able to confirm through biopsy of the mass on her lung that it is cancer. She underwent a procedure that involved temporary tubes in her chest for the fluid to drain in hopes that she could breathe more easily. The tubes were removed August 8th and she was discharged to make her journey home to PA. She will follow up with her cancer doctor at home to discuss stage of cancer, treatment and next steps.
While she was in the hospital for a week in another state she had to pay unexpected expenses for hotels to house her husband and son, food throughout the week, ship hospitalization bill, and now will have a large sum of general hospital bills under her belt. Liz recently left her job of 8 years to pursue another job opportunity within the last several months so unfortunately she is not eligible for FMLA and does not have a lump some of PTO racked up to provide an income while she is not working. It is unknown when she will be able to return to work. They are now down to a one income household.
If you know Liz then you know that she absolutely has one of the biggest hearts and ALWAYS puts other needs in front of her own. Help me put Liz and her family needs on the front burner and if you feel compelled to donate, please know what a big difference you are making to their lives.
If you want to help me bless this family but are unable or choose not to do so financially please see the meal train link on my profile as another great way to support them during this time of unknowns. Prayers for the best possible outcome during this scary and uncertain time would be greatly appreciated for her and her family. Reach out to me privately if you have other ideas on how you want to help support her. Thank you in advance!
