Hi, my name is Alex and I'm fundraising for my dog Dexter who needs emergency eye surgery.

I'm not usually one to ask for charity under any circumstance, but I'll admit right now I've been caught on the back foot.

This morning at about 6.45am I believe someone tried to knock or push something through our mailbox.

My two Shih Tzus both started barking loudly and frantically, we live on a very quiet street and it's unusal for their to be people around at that time.

I heard a sharp yelp from one of them and I came down to check on them, to find that Dexter's right eye had popped fully from its socket, accompanied by an amount of bleeding. Apparently this isn't an uncommon phenomena in Shih Tzus and other short muzzle breeds (you live and learn!), you can read about it here: ASPCA website

20 minutes later we were at the emergency vetinary hospital and they tried to lubricate and reseat the eyeball but were unsuccessful. Unfortunately, the only option after that is an Enucleation procedue - i.e. removal of the eye, or as I'm choosing to call it "Pirate Training". He's in surgery as I type.

It's not a cheap procedure, about £1000.00 for the surgery and initial medication, plus £350 for the emergency visit this morning and then more for the inevitable follow up appointments.

Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated, Dexter is a derpy lump of a dog, but much loved! Unfortunately right now I'm a little short on liquid cash.
