Hi, well, here we are. A place no one wants to be, a club you never want to join.
In February, Erika was diagnosed with Stage 2, HER2+ hormone negative breast cancer. Right before her 40th birthday, she noticed breast pain and found a lump on her own. You can imagine the shock.
Everything after that has been a whirlwind. Erika started Chemotherapy which included 12 infusions and two oral medications that she will take for at least one year. Next will be surgery and radiation.
Erika is a little over 1/2 through chemo. It is an exhausting, expensive, and traumatic experience.
In Erika's words: This has been a journey, and my boss shared with me the words of Glennon Doyle, "this will be hard, but we can do hard things." I believe them, which couldn't be more true while dealing with the unexpected. No matter what your "hard" is in life, YOU GOT IT. Seek help when you need it.... I'm not one to do this, but it's worth it.
Erika has such a positive and strong attitude! Her friends describe her as strong, caring, funny, and supportive. Anyone that knows her knows this.
There are so many expenses outside of insurance. Any self-care such as acupuncture/massage to help prevent and ease neuropathy, ordering meals when you and your support are tired, over-the-counter meds, supplements, hats for your new head, and SO much more. Let's help lift this burden so Erika can focus on ONE thing. BEATING CANCER.
Thank you for your calls, messages, prayers, and good vibes.
