This past week we learned our father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. For most of the past two months he’s been very sick with what was initially believed to be Guillain-Barre which brought him immense weakness and landed him in the hospital. He was paralyzed up to his waist. Over the course of the past two months he’s been admitted to the hospital, to a rehabilitation facility and to a skilled nursing facility to provide him the care needed. This past week some symptoms worsened and prompted imaging tests which revealed masses in his stomach, adrenal glands, lymph nodes, lung and liver. A biopsy of his liver revealed the mass was cancer. Teams are still trying to get to the bottom of exactly where the cancer originated. It is believed all the neurological symptoms he’s had are due to the cancer. So while they figure out origins they are giving him a medicine that helps to calm down autoimmune type disorder known as paraneoplastic sundrome.

Over the past 2 months we’ve witnessed our father suffer at the hands of a hospital in Panama City, Florida. The care has been negligent and at times disturbing. It’s clear the hospital is not equipped to care for his needs. He requires more care and he needs our support to ensure we get him the best care.

Our family has decided to move him to Dallas, Texas where he’ll be evaluated by the cancer team at the University of Texas – a hospital known to lead the way in caring for cancer patients. We’re still determining exactly how he will travel to Texas but anticipate the costs will continue to add up and wanted to share this opportunity for all who know our father to consider showing your support by contributing to this fundraiser to help our family in making sure he receives the very best of care and help us afford travel and any costs associated with his care that will be needed. We realize our time ahead may be limited, but it’s so important to us that we ensure he sees the very best of doctors who can help minimize his pain and help him live his life with as much comfort, care and compassion as we can offer him.

We are determined to continue to advocate for him and support our mother as well. This whole experience has been hard. The hardest part is the neglect and ultimately suffering he has gone through. Those of you who know him know he is so kind, caring and trusts the Lord knows how to help all of this during this time. he also served our country for 20 years!
