What was suppose to be a relaxing Sunday morning motorcycle ride for my mom (Cindy) and stepdad (Randy) quickly turned tragic. On Sunday 7/ 5/2020 my mom was in a motorcycle accident. My mom was following behind my stepdad when he checked his mirror and didn't see her, he turned his bike around. To his worst nightmare he found my mom on the ground about 10 feet from her bike face down unconscious, she was breathing Thank God and called 911. To this day she does not recall what happened before the accident. After visiting the accident site a couple of times what we are thinking happened is she may have hit some gravel or tried to go around it and lost control. After her motorcycle went off the road she hit a small ditch which she was then thrown from her bike. My mom was taken to Ottawa hospital and w/ her injuries they needed to send her to a trauma hospital. She was taken by ambulance to Edward Hospital where she spent the next four days. She has 4 broken ribs and a small puncture to her left lung. She also has a broken nose and a large wound on her left elbow. Most of all the injuries happened to the left side of her body. She's bruised up pretty good all down her left side. We are so very fortunate that she will slowly recover from her injuries and it wasn't anything worse. She is currently recovering at home and so far has had a nurse and physical therapist come see her. Starting next week they will be coming a couple times a week to check on her. Main concern right now is that we get her up and walking just a bit so that pneumonia does not set in. She has a breathing apparatus that she uses daily to keep her lungs from filling up w/ fluid. As you can imagine w/ four broken ribs it is nearly impossible to take a deep breathe w/ out extreme pain, but she's doing her best. We did have a minor set back on Saturday sending her back to the ER for her elbow. It is starting to develop an infection so they had to give her IV antibiotics and cleaned the wound again. She's strong and fighter and we are so lucky to have her here w/ us today. As you can imagine the trauma my stepdad has endured through all of this and how he found my mom and the shock of not knowing if she was alive or not. As some of you may know once Covid hit my stepdad was laid off and my mom is a hairdresser and was also laid off. Unfortunately this accident couldn't of happened at a worst time for them. Mom was only back to work about 3 weeks before the accident and my stepdad was actively looking for a new job, but now everything is put on hold to care for my mom. With mom home and a long road of recovery ahead of her, my stepdad has been pulled in a million direction daily to get her everything she will need moving forward. I see the stress building and the financial concern on my stepdad face daily. I know all the medical bills will start to come in and the financial stress will become overwhelming for them. My hope is to create this page and give them some relief even if it's small amount, it will help them tremendously during this difficult time. Thank you taking the time to read this.
I have also created a caring bridge page that I update daily w/ her progress, she link to follow https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/cindyromanowskiand
