A mom's journey through cancer

Donation protected

I am the husband of the most wonderful woman, wife, mother, and person I have ever met and here is our story. So I am 41 and Beth is 40 years old. We have two beautiful children who are the complete center of our universe.  With a history of heart issues in my family, my wife decides to make me an appointment with our new family doctor whom we have not met. She figures she might as well make one for herself while we are going. I get my check up, everything looks good, get an EKG everything looks good. Beth's turn. You have a lump in your neck the doctor says, no big deal but you should have an ultrasound. What!? Beth says. We go get an ultrasound. No big deal, the tech says, a lot of women have issues with their thyroid after having kids. Whoa! 2.5cm that's a big lump! You need to get a biopsy they say. We go get a biopsy, walking down the long  corridor the tech says, is this your first time? We are like umm yeah?! No big deal, she says a lot of women have nodules on there thyroid after having children.  We wait 3 weeks although the results had been there in 2 days and we are stressed, as well as our families. Finally, I get the dreaded phone call, I have cancer, she says. Total shock, what?! I have cancer, she says again. Boom! Our world changes! Tears flow as fear sets in. We gather ourselves and begin the arduous task of appointment after appointment. After getting a couple of opinions we decide to go to the University of Pennsylvania. We meet the surgeon, he says, no big deal it's only papillary. Beth has her thyroid removed and tested. They test her thyroid and say, wait has someone in your family had this before? No, we say, Why? He says well it seems to be pretty aggressive for not having a family history. It has spread to surrounding lymph nodes and blood vessels. Blood vessels? we say. What does that mean? Well there's a chance it has spread to your lungs. What!??  Turns out it is a big deal, it scared the crap out of us. What happens if this? What happens if that? What about our children? Unfortunately sometimes you automatically think the worst but we remained positive even though the history of "it's no big deal" kept pointing towards the opposite. Beth is still undergoing treatment and the prognosis is good but the journey has been absolutely crazy, stressful, and full of unanswered questions. We are taking it day by day. We have insurance through the market place which isn't the greatest. It only partially covers the surgery , the treatments, the scans, and tests. For someone who was in the military, you would think I could get my family better coverage. So the bills just keep piling up.  Someone told me about go fund me and I thought maybe it was a way to help take the burden of  the mounting medical bills off of my wife. Cancer was enough to worry about let alone the unfortunate bills that come with it. So any assistance would be much appreciated!  With your help Beth can go through this without the added stress the price of cancer brings.
Thank you!
