My name is Karen and I’m raising funds to help with the costs of my husband Brian’s medical needs. Many people will remember Brian as a nurse on the surgical ward, here in Portage for more than 20 years. Brian has been retired for several years due to health issues and I am currently on sick leave so I can support Brian.

Now he is fighting his own medical battle. On January 9th, Brian fell unresponsive due to sepsis and went into cardiac arrest. After 20 minutes of cpr, he came back to us but now requires dialysis 3 times a week!

We must travel to HSC as there is no room in the Portage unit. Gas has gone up over 70 cents a litre since we started this journey and there is no help with parking etc.

We are currently waiting to start home hemodialysis but must travel 4 times a week to city for training for 6-8 weeks once we start. Having dialysis at home will mean more quality of life for the whole family but especially for Brian as the constant travelling is exhausting for him.

Funds will be used for travel expenses, medications, and to purchase a vinyl or leather covered lift chair for Brian to use for dialysis as these chairs are no longer provided.
