My uncle, Wilfredo Martinez Castillo, is a father of three children and a loving stepfather to a boy who is wheelchair-bound. He is the rock of his family, and now, he needs help more than ever.
On April 11th, Wilfredo suddenly collapsed while taking a shower. He experienced intense headaches and vomiting before losing consciousness. After being rushed to the hospital in Managua, the doctors discovered that he had suffered a ruptured arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in his brain - a life-threatening condition.
The diagnosis is devastating:
- Intracerebral hemorrhage in the basal ganglia
- Hydrocephalus (fluid build-up in the brain)
- Hypertensive crisis
- Emergency external ventriculostomy (brain surgery)
Thanks to an emergency operation, Wilfredo is stable but still in a delicate condition. He's fighting to wake up fully, and every day counts.
Unfortunately, medical care in Nicaragua is expensive and often insufficient. His family cannot afford the rising cost of medication, follow-up treatment, rehabilitation, or further surgery.
If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser. Spreading the word gives Wilfredo and his family more hope and strength.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
*Note*: The funds are being transferred to my mother ( Paula Bullock ) who is Wilfredo’s sister and she will be transferring the funds to Wilfredo’s wife Maria, because there is no direct transfer option to Nicaragua and because he is still in the hospital, so the funds have to go to his wife.
