Jenni is a 2nd year medical student at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ. She is very excited to have been offered the opportunity to travel to the Philippines in April 2013 to continue her education in maternal and children's health while providing necessary community health care to the citizens of Olongapo. This "Midwifery Intensive Internship and Cultural Competency" course is made possible through Mercy In Action, a faith-based non-profit organization dedicated to "bringing hope and healing to the poorest of the poor". While in medical school, Jenni has been deeply touched to learn that among developed nations the US ranks highest in the rate of women dying due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth and has the highest chance of a child dying before the age of five. Jenni hopes to use the training she will gain in the Philippines to provide necessary medical care to women and children in the US through her dream of opening a family practice following medical school.
During her time in the Philippines, Jenni is most excited to participate in newborn and prenatal exams at the free clinic, complete home visits to patients on a landfill, and hike to a mountain village to distribute vitamins. She is also looking forward to spending nights "on call" at the clinic to observe any births that may occur.
Jenni really needs your help! Your donation will not only help the poorest families in the Philippines but will also help Jenni become a better doctor. (Which in the end helps you!) Any amount you can donate will make an impact.
