The passing of Michael Morris has suddenly left his surviving family with a deep loss.
While Michael had been a Maintenance Technician for the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History Foundation since September of 2015, in truth, he had maintained and repaired our museum buildings for well over ten years. He began working for the Museum as a technician through an outside agency, and as the mutual appreciation between him and our institution grew, we invited him to join us as a staff member. He did so, and true to his loyal nature, he never left.
Wherever he went, Michael wore a sunny smile that was often accompanied by a laugh that was difficult to resist or forget. Like his spirit, he had a sweet tooth, and he bonded with his team over chocolates, donuts, and other sugary treats that could be enjoyed in between working with hammers, wrenches, and drills.
Michael’s friends and colleagues, especially within the Operations Team in which he worked, hold him in high esteem. His sense of caring for the museum extended to his care for others, for there was never a moment when he did not offer a helping hand when he saw someone struggling, or extended a kind smile and friendly hello.
Michael was known for doing his part and carrying his own load meant a great deal to him. He found honor in his work, and he never expected anything in return.
Michael was, to the core, selfless. He was a proudly decorated Vietnam Veteran who earned a Purple Heart for his service and courage.
This Memorial Fund will assist Michael's family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Michael. You will always be a part of our Museum family.
