Rally for Roman

Thank you in advance for your time, and if you are available to contribute or share this page, we will all be eternally grateful. Roman has been much more than just a pet to me and my family, he is my most trusted friend and I honestly believe I would not be here today without him. He has recently been diagnosed with cancer, stage 2 soft tissue sarcoma to be exact, that has been growing very aggressively. In October he had surgery to remove a 1 pound tumor from his hip, only to have it grow back less than a month later. Vet bills have already exceeded the $3,000 mark and are expected to be as much as $10,000. He is set to begin radiation therapy next week, and the hope is to shrink the cancer as much as possible before revisiting a surgical solution, but the prognosis is hopeful. Asking for help like this is uncomfortable for me, but it is the only option I have left. As I said before, if you can help in any way, it will mean more to me than you will ever know. Below is a story of how much Rome has truly impacted my life, and as incredible as it is, it doesn’t even begin to explain why he means as much to me as he does.
In July of 2013, Brad and Roman were moving to Huntsville, TX, where Brad would attend Sam Houston State University for grad school. On the way Brad and Roman were involved in a horrible accident when Brad’s truck blew a tire and flipped three times on Texas Interstate 45. Brad leaned over to attempt to grab Roman as the truck began to flip, saving his life in the process. The truck landed directly on the roof above where he had been sitting, caving it into his seat. Brad suffered a fractured C6 vertebrae, and had 17 staples in the top of his head. Worse yet, Roman was ejected from the vehicle and disappeared into a nearby cornfield. At only seven months old, everyone feared the worst. Strangers got together and family drove in to search for Roman, The Huffington Post did a story on the dog that saved his owners life, and Brad even went on the news in an attempt to find him. Brad was convinced Roman saved him that day and he would do anything to find his best friend. Despite the news articles and countless days of searching, the days turned into weeks, and weeks to months of searching for Roman, but Brad never lost hope. There were 100’s of calls and emails saying, “this has to be him” but it never was, until one day almost two months after the accident. A woman called the number of the microchip tag of a dog that just showed up in her yard. They connected her to Brad, and Roman had been found!! He had survived!! Brad dropped everything and went to get Roman in the middle of the night. He was reunited with his friend and the dog that saved his life. Roman and Brad have been through many trials in the last 5 years; jobs, relationships, schools, and moving around the country, but they have always had each other. Roman truly is a man’s best friend.
Roman has a lot of years left in him, and there is no question that Brad will do everything he can to save the life of the best friend that once saved his. Any help you can give to Brad and Roman is so appreciated.
