This puppy is dying.
How this puppy is dying:
A virus is attacking the lining of his intestines, causing layers to lift off and slough off. Tissue and blood leak out with diarrhea. She wakes up only to vomit bile, specks of blood appear on the inside of her cone collar. She moans when her joints hurt. Her body is depleted of white cells - the cells that fight infection, and she is becoming anemic as the blood leaks from his injured intestines. Worst of all, she is losing fluids and protein faster than we can replace them, becoming dangerously dehydrated. Ladies dressed in paper gowns and plastic gloves try to comfort him, but they can’t stay. They clean her bedding again. Clean her face again. Poke her with a needle again. She can’t see them crying, doesn’t understand why they can’t hold her. Doesn’t understand that her disease is extremely contagious and she is at risk for other infections. She is lonely, scared, and in pain.
Why this puppy is dying:
A wonderful lady who had recently tragically lost a young pet wanted to open her heart again. She adopted a puppy from someone she thought was a reputable breeder. This breeder told her she has been feeding raw food since 4 weeks old. The breeder told her NOT to vaccinate - the breeder didn’t believe in vaccines, they are poison. She told her NOT to use flea and tick medicine - they are poison. The wonderful new owner saw that her pup was ill within a few days of coming home. She wondered if it was the raw food and called to make a vet appointment just in case, deciding to vaccinate just in case.
She was too late. The puppy had been infected with Parvovirus a week before coming into her life and now they are both fighting for the puppy’s life. To make matters worse, bacteria from the raw diet are crossing the compromised gut barrier adding septic infection to a devastating viral infection. This amazing wonderful lady is facing having to say goodbye again, her heart breaking again.
What are we doing about it:
We are fighting. Fighting hard because this dear owner will let us, despite having this pup in her life for only a few days and enormous costs of ICU care, she is fighting on. And I thank her a million times for letting me tell her story.
I’m angry. No, angry isn’t strong enough.
This puppy is dying because of stupidity. This puppy is dying because of ignorance.
It is STUPID not to vaccinate your pet. It is IGNORANT to think vaccines are poison.
Vaccines SAVE LIVES.
Dear breeder where ever you are. You are STUPID. You are IGNORANT. And YOU are the reason this puppy is dying. Everyone of my technicians wishes they could tell you in person, and so do I.
