This fund is for the production of the first ever motion picture documentary about the life of celebrated Tongan composer, Sir Sofele Kakala.
Sofele was not only Tonga's most gifted composer, he broke new ground by writing music that combined classical compositions with the voices and rhythms of traditional Tongan music. His vast body of work was also diverse which included pieces for the Catholic church, government, schools, and the community at large.
The first time writer and producer Neka Aipolo heard Sofele's music performed live with a full choir and orchestra, he was so moved that he immediately began researching the life of the late composer and quickly realized that his story was one worth telling.
We have assembled a small but talented crew to travel around the Pacific and interview a number of individuals who were close Sofele and gather footage to bring his story to life for the very first time!
Every donation will go directly to the crew travel costs, production and post production (editing, score, etc.).
