Sophia’s Journey To Recovery

In early May, Mark and Melissa Miller’s life was completely turned upside down when their 10 year daughter, Sophia was diagnosed with a brain tumor. 

Sophia was rushed to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and underwent brain surgery and was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma. Due to the the tumors location, Sophia developed Posterior Fossa and lost her ability to speak and most of her motor skills. Sophia spent 8 weeks in Rehabilliation while completing 6 weeks of daily proton radiation therapy and weekly chemo treatments. 

Sophia is strong and a fighter. She has proved to her parents and brother how determined she is to recover and she still has a long road ahead of her. Sophia is currently attending Shirley Ryan day rehab while receiving weekly chemo treatments. Treatment is expected to continue until 2022. 

Like many of us, the family’s health insurance will cover some of the expenses of treatment. However, they are facing a long battle that will affect them on so many levels. 
We established this fundraiser to help ease the vast financial burden on Sophia’s parents, so that the family can focus all their efforts on Sophia’s treatment, healing and spending precious time together.
