Kamron Winfield's Cancer Fight
Donation protected
On March 8th, we rushed our 12 year old son to the emergency room. A week prior, he had said his neck was bothering him. We figured it was some type of an infection. The mass on his neck quadrupled in size bigger than my hand in just a week. After examination, a CT scan and blood work, the ER doctor said that we would need to transferred by ambulance immediately to the Pediatric ER at Summerlin Hospital because he had a massive malignant tumur in his neck and it was some type of cancer.
We were transferred where there was a pediatric oncologist and pediatric surgeon waiting for his arrival. After running several tests and another CT scan they found fist size tumors in his chest next to his heart and airway, abdomen and his armpits. The next day he had an emergency biopsy of his neck and a bone marrow biopsy. When the results came back, the oncologist confirmed that he did have cancer and it had spread to his bone marrow.
Kamron has been diagnosed with tcell lymphoblastic lymphoma Non-Hodgkin's. His dad and I have been trying to juggle our other two boys with the help of family and friends. We have also been missing work and have been acrewing large medical expenses including deductibles, copays and medications. Yesterday, Kamron had a spinal tap to see if the cancer had spread to spinal or brain fluid. As well as administered his first round of chemo. Friday, he had a PET scan.
Today, he had a port placed near his heart to administer chemo . He will have weekly chemo over the next 9 months as well as lumbar punctures to test his spinal and brain fluid. He has a long road ahead of him, but we have faith that he will recover. We will fight this terrible disease until he heals. Many friends and family have asked how they can help and we appreciate all of the support, kindness and prayers. Although we have medical insurance, Financially we know that we will need any help possible to help with Kamron's medical treatment, our families expenses to take care of our other sons Devin and Tristan, and so that we can take time off work as needed to be with Kamron, or unexpected expenses during this difficult trial. We appreciate any and all support from friends and family. We are incredibly grateful to have you in our lives.
Always take the time to hug your loved ones a little bit longer. Take a few extra minutes to play with your children. Appreciate the blessings you take for granted. Life can change and your world can be turned upside down unexpectedly.
We will beat this disease, and Kamron will continue to be the most lovable, caring and kind boy that he has always been! Never give up hope!
