Fill The Gap

July is a bittersweet month for us. Sean and I were married in July and I was diagnosed in July. But this year we celebrate BIG. It has been 10 years since that day I received the call that turned our world upside down. To celebrate I need your help to be a part of a team! As a team we need to raise $1500.00 for the “Fill the Gap” program at Altru Cancer Center this year!

From Altru’s Cancer Center website: “Filling the Gap provides financially eligible patients with gas cards, nutritional supplements, and lodging assistance when overnight stays are necessary. These items are not typically covered by insurance, yet can dramatically affect a patient’s quality of life. In 2016, over $176,000 was given to patients through the program. “Filling the Gap provides nutritional supplements for all patients regardless of income and also helps ‘fill the gap’ with finances when they travel distances for their care, through hotel stays, gas cards or even taxi rides,” says Beth Nelson, manager of Altru Cancer Center.”

One day I was sitting in the reception area waiting for my name to be called to receive radiation treatment (32 in all), I spoke with an elderly couple who traveled every day from Bemidji MN to receive treatment. I sat there thinking of the financial burden it must have been placed on them and I knew someday I wanted to help this program if I could. I was so fortunate to live in a town that provided my treatment. I needed to give back to a place that gave me back my life.

Five years ago our team raised $1110.00 to celebrate my  five years of being cancer-free. This year I need your help to beat that number. I will be running the Wild Hog Half Marathon in September and would like to present a check to Altru for an amount of $1500.00 or MORE We have two months to reach this number. Are you in?
