Dealing with a crippling disease

Rik had a heart attack April 5th 2014 he started to recover but not much longer after that a drug he was put on had an adverse reaction. This reaction only effects 1 in 10,000 people. Which led to him losing most of the strength and some function in his muscles. Now it is difficult to eat, walk and do normal day to everyday things. Which led to him losing his job and benefits being denied not knowing when it will come through and having no savings leftThoughts were that he should be better by now but that is not so in his case. His Wife needs to be with him to help him and to care for him for simple tasks like getting dressed and going up and down the stairs. Rik has beat Cancer and a heart attack so emotionally this is devastating.
So my parents went to their appointment at U of M yesterday. The insurance that they have to pay out of pocket for every month because he lost his job may decide not to cover it. What a joke. If they don't, parents have to pay for it in full. Dad has to have a special non invasive biopsy that is minimal blood loss that they only do at U of M and insurance can deny them but it's the only way to figure out what's going on and to get him treatment. The doctors initial diagnosis (their guess) is autoimmune disease brought on by Lipitor or underlying cancer. The appointment for his biopsy is scheduled for January 30th hopefully insurance will be worked out by then. They did a lab test they sent off to St Louis some new test they just came out with. There's always something to be worried about.
