Help a trans woman avoid homelessness

We are organizing this gofundme on behalf of our friend Maren who is a 22-year-old Turkish trans woman currently facing an urgent and dangerous situation. She was forced to flee her home after being kicked out by her family simply for being herself. Staying would have meant risking further violence, so she made the heartbreaking decision to leave behind everything she knew in order to survive.

Right now, she is staying with someone who’s been kind enough to offer temporary shelter. But that arrangement is short-term. Her host is in the process of leaving the country and once that happens, Maren will have nowhere to go.

Her most urgent priority is to avoid mandatory military conscription, which would be deeply unsafe for her as a trans woman. To do that, she needs to enroll in another university, since she no longer has access to her original school after fleeing. She’s also trying to find work, but in a city where she has no support network and where there are no real anti-discrimination protections for trans people it’s almost impossible.

Maren needs help covering her most basic necessities: rent, clothes, food, and HRT (her current supply will only last a few more months). She’s trying to rebuild from the ground up, all while living in constant fear of becoming completely homeless.
